May we take this opportunity to introduce The Art of Glass Limited and the Stained Glass services we offer.
Led by
Robert Paddock, with his apprentice-served, twenty-four years of glass painting experience, The Art of Glass have a studio at Hatton Country World, near Warwick. As the company has grown, so have the scale and geographical range of projects undertaken and we have found that our combined skills are more fulfilled in
Ecclesiastical and public commissions. We wish to expand the company into these areas and would ask you to take a look at our credentials and list of completed commissions, with a view to consideration for future projects.
We can offer a comprehensive survey facility, which involves a systematic breakdown of the condition and longevity of stained glass or leaded lights.
A typical survey would include close inspection of the following:
a) Integrity of lead came - Solder joints, in early stages of deterioration, show cracks on border leads, sometimes caused by stress from moving stonework.
b) Open 'Cut lines' - When lights move, these
interlocking leads can dislodge themselves, leaving large horizontal gaps. An indication of this is vertical lines of water ingress which can remove delicate paint work.
c) Water resistance of panels Evidence of water stains and damage.
d) Cement breakdown - Usually a first indication the window needs help. The cement (grouting) gives lights their water-tightness and rigidity.
Should this break down, the lead and glass will eventually become displaced.
e) Glazing bar effectiveness - Rusting bars can damage and discolour stonework. Most important are the copper and lead tie wires, if they
become detached from the light, the bar becomes ineffective.
f) Stability of paint work - Can be affected by water ingress or poor firing.
g) Stonework and condition of pointing - Can be very relevant to the
condition and longevity of the light.
h) Metal casements - Often rusting but may have historical value.
All of the problems mentioned and more may occur with greater or lesser consequence and as P.C.C.'s are often under great financial
constraints, we feel it is our duty to prioritise work undertaken.
In other words, if it's not broken, we won't fix it!
All materials are replaced on a 'like for like' basis.
All English mouth-blown glass is replaced with English mouth-blown glass, although any replacement metalwork is stainless steel which can be powder-coated, or acid cut and painted black, unless otherwise directed.
We
are also aware of the importance of suitable pointing mixes for differing stone types, eliminating the potential for damage that inappropriate mixes can cause.
Specialist glass cleaning services and supply and fitting of
wire window guards (stainless steel) are also available.
New commissions are gladly received, ecclesiastical, public and private and although we usually design to a budget, we pride ourselves on the diversity of design
we can offer, from highly traditional to contemporary.
With hopes that we can be of service to you.
